Fritz Hansen Stay x Korea

The hotel, originally designed in the traditional hanok style at the end of the 19th century, offers beautiful views over Gahoe-dong and the surrounding mountains. In 2016, it served as a pop-up Fritz Hansen showroom during a 3-day event, displaying a selection of Danish design classics. Today, it has been turned it into a retreat, offering guests a warm and welcoming overnight experience with an emphasis on slow living, one-on-one classes, incense and music. 

Inside, the space has been kitted out with art by Korean artist Heejoon Lee and an extensive assortment of Fritz Hansen products, including the iconic PK™ series by Poul Kjærholm. Pieces such as the PK31™, PK22™, PK61™, PK24™ and PK80™ are scattered throughout the rooms in shades of grey and black, sitting alongside Arne Jacobsen ikons such as the Egg™ and the Swan™. Each product was chosen for its striking silhouette and contemporary feel, forming a direct contrast to the traditional wooden hanok. 

Elsewhere, the brand-new Clam™ pendant light, designed by Ahm & Lund, was also handpicked for the space. Inspired by seashells, its gently curved form is crafted from mouth-blown opal glass and fitted with brushed brass details. The elegant shades glide apart to reveal a pearl of light within.

The building itself faces south, allowing sunlight to flow freely throughout the space all year round. Crafted using a selection of granite stone, wood and brick, the building forms a stunning harmony with the surrounding houses. 

The stay will offer a range of one-on-one classes such as singing ball meditation, Ikebana floral workshops, and traditional Korean wrapping classes. 

The Fritz Hansen Stay will open for guests between November 16 and December 21, 2021.
